Llanfairpwllgwyngyl, Wales + Chichicastenango, Guatemala: A good adulting day!

Another great review on Apple Podcasts!

5 star rating!!

“The friends you wish you had: These two are so cool and funny. But the magic is in their natural banter. They are immediately likable and you’ll wish they were your besties bringing over the wine on a Wednesday…”

AND WAIT FOR IT…..

We now have a website for our web series, Live from [Blank]! Check out our latest episode from Kansas, Missouri, and follow along! And if you’re up for a great laugh, watch Lulu and Alison on their Curateur Unboxing video!

Alison’s former Wishlist item is her current Obsession!! She now has a Roomba!!! She even tests it by setting things in front of it to make sure it will pick it up!

Lulu is obsessed with a good stinky Mediterranean pasta! She loves trying the tinned fish (sardines, WHEW!), capers & garlic in it!

Alison wishes for good quality full-length mirror to stick on the wall.

Lulu wishes for every one of our listeners to get on our email list!! It’s going to be super fun & informative!

C’MONNNNN!!! This pronunciation is INCREDIBLE! But, there is so much excitement ahead! Also known as "St. Mary's Church in the hollow of white hazel near a rapid whirlpool and the Church of St. Tysilio near the red cave,” this city where Alison stayed is Gwesty Carreg Bran Hotel It is a narrow stretch of shallow tidal water that separates the island of Anglesey from the mainland of Wales. It is a country setting, nestled on 3 acres of garden a not much more than a stones throw away from the Menai Straits. She got a bargain for the Family Room with breakfast and then set off for breakfast to the Railway Station for a good photo opportunity by crossing over the railway bridge to the railway platform where the full name is clearly signposted. She also stocked up on $100 'o’ MERCH for her bestie, Lulu!! She got magnets, Coffee mug, T-shirts, Tumblers, Car magnet, Mouse pad, Hat, Pen, Shot glass with this long town name on it! WINNER!

Ever the overachiever, she then opted to do all three of the Ribride excursions like the:

  • Action-packed 60 minute RIB trip and experience some of the most magnificent sights along the Menai Strait. Enter the world famous ‘Swellies’ with its shipwrecks, rocks and whirlpools and pass beneath two of the most spectacular bridges in Wales. We then journey to Bangor Pier, passing Millionaires' Row before heading back with some high speed twists and turns to finish.

  • Feel alive on this fresh and fun, RIB experience, the perfect way to beat the winter blues. Wrap up warm and enjoy a 45 minute trip onboard as we take you through the Swellies and past the fascinating Millionaire's Row.

  • Come onboard one of our four Adventure RIBs as we take you on an exhilarating 90 minute tour to Puffin Island. Hold on tight as you head north east along the Menai Strait, passing the colorful townhouses of Beaumaris and on to Puffin Island. Keep your eyes open for seals and between May and July, the island is home to several migratory birds, including Puffins. This trip runs April to October

Then she went on to dinner for the Penrhos Arms for some good pub fare. Then she went off to the open fields of Wales to do something big for the “big named” town. So, she found a field somewhere there in Wales (sorry, Landowner!) and she bought (bargain shopping on Etsy!) extra large (giant) red marquee letters to notify the world of this town!

She also did a little ‘back 10K Math’ to adjust her previous excursions to allow for the marquee costs to end up at a solid $10,000!! Good on ya, Alison!

Well, these two ladies are SO aligned!!! They both chose super long and intricate city names. Lulu chose Chichicastenango, Guatemala this week for some exciting adventure that started at an amazing Airbnb, fully equipped with an infinity pool and hot tub. But, Lulu now recommends a ‘deep clean’ with The Spruce all the way from Orlando to clean the hot tub.

Then she hired a translator, Mateo who specializes in the fashion industry. He made Lulu’s Instagram go all en fuego!!

Breakfast at the market was a bargain at $10.

Each Thursday and Sunday, Mayan vendors from around Guatemala walk up to hundreds of kilometres to the highland town of Chichicastenango. Here, at the biggest native market in Central America, they set up small stalls with textiles, handicrafts, wood carvings, pottery and jewelery in the streets around the main square. FYI: They want you to haggle in the market!! That is how they roll!

$500 in cash, she put into a Fendi leather bag to haggle her way around the market! Don’t worry! Mateo was there to help her!

She went to lunch at Moleno Viejo where she enjoyed time at the historical Guatemalan country home tastefully converted into a traditional restaurant, providing a relaxing and family friendly environment.

Lulu decided to go visit, for free, Iglesia de Santo Tomas where the plaza's east side dates from 1540 and is often the scene of rituals that are more distinctly Maya than Catholic. It combines the catholic church and mayan calendar in a beautiful way of harmony!

Anxious to fit into the fabulous culture, Lulu. decided to study with Galería Pop Wuj for people to learn the Maya dialect of Kíché. She’s so magnanimoius that she got the city Pro Mark mallets. Then she decided to take the tip of @christiantamburr and get a bunch of amazing mallets to measure some amazing music!!!

Lulu also came upon The Palo Volador dance, which consists of two dancers who unwind by means of ropes from the tip of a trunk of a tall pole, until they reach the ground. Each of the dancers usually dresses in jumpsuits and with graceful movements they dance to the beat of a marimba while the bows and stick are prepared for the event.

The dancers and participants practice the “Sacred Fire” ritual in which they ask nature to help them choose the tree for the ceremony. After cutting it down, the tree is carried by hundreds of men to the ceremony site. The ritual involves following the legend of the Popol Vuh which documents that the stick is carried by approximately 400 men.

Knowing a talented vibraphone player, Christian Tamburr, Lulu made sure to settle the following and other local talent to close out her 10K day!

Lulu is happy STILL raving about white chocolate strawberries! YUM!

Lulu is happy to have her Aunt still visiting from the Philippines as it’s been so great to spend adult time together.
