AND WAIT FOR IT…..

We have a new segment COMING SOON! So, keep an eye out for it on our YouTube channel!

Alison has been using a shampoo that helps her hair grow but it’s pricey. So, she’s been going down the shampoo research rabbit hole this week! The surprising thing is that she’s found some shampoos that are actually bad for your hair. Listen for the information!

Our very own 10K bookworm, Lulu is obsessed with books that you can hold in your hands. Although kindle and digital books are fine, there’s nothing like the feel of a real book with paper for a good read where she can control the pace of her reading and she loves the unplugged nature of it.

With the Halloween and holiday season upon us, Alison wishes she was more of the ‘crafty’ Mom that can help make Halloween costumes for her daughter.

Lulu wants new prescription eyeglasses to replace her ‘replacement’ frames that replaced her broken frames. She’s enjoying the process of choosing what kind of new frames she wants!

How do you spend a scary Halloween trip in San Francisco? You stay at the Queen Anne Hotel, that’s how! Lulu chose Room 410, the former office of Miss Mary Lake, which is supposedly visited by her ghost, as she was the headmistress of the school for girls that opened in 1890. Don’t get too scared as she is a friendly ghost that some guests have reported that their clothes were unpacked for them while others have woken up during the night to find their blankets tucked neatly around them.

While Lulu was totally down with that kind of attention from a ghost, Alison was not. But, not in the way you would think. She wasn’t scared of a ghost doing something while she would be sleeping…she just doesn’t like having her feet tucked in at night. I’m right there with you, Ali! Don’t bind my feet, yo!

After a lovely night’s sleep under Miss Mary’s care, Lulu took her own Black Lane Car to Derm Restaurant, a Thai restaurant, for some typical breakfast fare of Eggs Benedict and the like as well as some Thai specialties like Khao tom, a Thai-style jasmine rice porridge served with crispy pork belly, bacon, sautéed minced chicken, spinach, ginger, cilantro, and a poached egg. Yes, please! And what tops that better than some ice cream from Salt & Straw, where she got a pint of each of the following:

  • Great Candycopia (candy bars in salted butterscotch ice cream)

  • Jack-o-lantern pumpkin bread

  • Don Bugito’s creepy crawly critters (toffee-brittle mealworms and chocolate crickets in matcha ice cream)

  • Black cat licorice & salted lavender

  • Double bubble toil and trouble (vegan) bubble gum

Apparently she did all that whilst still in her pajamas, because she then headed back to the hotel to change for the day. Don’t worry, Lulu…I’m in my pajamas still as I write this at almost 4pm, so no judgement here, sister! Just don’t ask me how many days I’ve been in them!

To better sleep while staying at the Queen Anne, Lulu purchased her own magical queen Casper bed with snow technology that keeps you 6 degrees cooler, has a 10 year protection plan that actually covers food, stains, human and pet stuff, rips, tears, and common child accidents! I think that last one is just if a child accidentally spills something, not if you ‘accidentally’ make a child on the bed. I don’t know…I could be wrong. Either way, it’s nice to know you’re covered!

And to go with her magical mattress, she got a magical bed frame from Irvine Home Collection, that has the following options:

— zero gravity

— massage

— programmable memory positions

— remote with flashlight

— USB ports

— assembles in 5 minutes

After the most incredibly decadent night of sleep, Lulu had to decide what she wanted to be for Halloween. She landed on being a 10K Bougie Ghost. For that she used a sheet by Frette, crafted from the highest grade Egyptian cotton Giza 45 with simple finishes. As she would be walking around San Fran for the night, she chose some comfy Uggs to wear on her feet.

I know the Frette sheet cost $3500, but unless she wanted to stumble through the streets, Lulu had to get some scissors to cut eye holes for her ghost outfit. So, she chose the 13” tailor scissors from the well-respected English scissor maker, Ernest Wright. Now, the best part of this company is the historical tidbit that Lulu found about Walter Wright. This company has been around since the 1800’s and they say, ‘As far back as records go, Walter Wright – a renowned ‘Little Mester’ of Sheffield – specialized in finishing scissor blades as an outworker and was also referred to as ‘Master Scissor Putter-togetherer.’ I don’t know about you, but I’m not-so-secretly hoping that Lulu and Alison have written a parody of Sondheim’s Putting it Together to share the story of Walter Wright! “Putterering it Togethererrrrr….”

After the wise decision to not attend the overcrowded puke fest also known as Crawloween, Lulu chose to enjoy the wholesome chill of Family Style with Bricoleur, for some wine, pizza and pumpkins! AND…WHO KNEW there was such a thing as salumi!!? My Greta Grammar brain just thought it was a typo, but get this…there is a difference between salumi and salami!! I feel smarter now, don’t you? Difference between salumi and salami is that Salumi is the craft of preserving and salting cured meat. ... Salami is a fermented salt-cured or cooked sausage. Salami is part of the traditional salumi category. There are seven major pork muscles that make Italian classic salumi. Does that mean someone who knows a lot about salami and salumi is a ‘salumiere?’ Sorry…it was funnier in my head.

To close out this super spooky-not so spooky 10K trip to San Fran, Lulu goes to the Grand Cathedral to listen to renowned organist and composer, Dorothy Papadakos play their pipe organ for a special screening of Rupert Julian’s immortal 1925 silent horror classic, The Phantom of the Opera, starring Lon Chaney! That sounds so amazing to me and I don’t even like scary movies!

While Lulu relied on ghosts of the past, Alison pulled a super creative producer feat and decided to create her very own ‘ultimate haunted house’ in Scary, West Virginia! Yes, it’s actually a town, not just an adjective about places in the WV. She rented an AirBnB farm that would provide her the perfect haunted landscape on this private farm. It’s basically a castle front on an industrial garage and there is a campground with a 2-room cabin on one end of the property. It has a pool, 2 ponds, a movie theater with theater-style seating, a sauna and steam shower, a gym…and a study, which Alison seems to think is the scariest! That would be a great Clue Party Night location with that study!

Now, there is one thing that the 10K ladies don’t scrimp on and that is research! Alison found the Top 13 suggestions on how to make a wicked haunted house. And there she found some great options to create this super creepy and scary retreat! Some of these I am sure will end up on her 10K wishlist sometime! She started with 2 of the Froggy Fog Titan Ice Ground Fog Machine to make it good and spooky foggy inside and outside then added super scary mirrors from Night Fright to give the illusion that there are killer clowns (aren’t they all?) and zombies (Alison’s favorite).

She hired 6 scare actors to use the masks and costumes from Dale Morton Studio to scare the bejeebers out of any guests at the farm and she encouraged all 10K Baes to come give it a try. And since she spent so much time preparing and not eating, she had to slow down long enough to enjoy some treats from Gold Belly. It started with some candy and halloween jars then moved on to pumpkin bagels and caviar to close out her 10K trip to Scary, West Virginia!

Lulu is happy to have a full tank of gas! Way to adult, Lulu!

Alison is happy to have a nice, cozy bed to sleep in. Zzzzz
