Bourail, New Caledonia + Delta, Utah

We have a new podcast! Or rather, we’ve moved our daily episodes to a new feed. So go subscribe to The Daily Happy - our daily 10 minute catch up session that reflects our #whatsyourhappy affirmation - there is something to be happy about every day, and while we are not here for ignoring the world around us, we are here for bringing the inspiration and the joy!

AND WAIT FOR IT…..

We now have a website for our web series, Live from [Blank]! Check out our latest episode from Kansas, Missouri, and follow along!

Not only is she doing all sorts of ‘adulting’, like getting PayPal debit cards for them and me, Alison has a really responsible obsession, the Ellevest app, a financial company for women. It is helping with investing, retirement, coaching, and stocks. She’s opted for their $9/month plan to help her create a savings. But, beware the time machine of 'What IF???" If you calculate how much you can save starting now, don’t get caught up with how much you ‘could’ have saved by now if you had started when you were 20.

Jerky, jerky, who doesn’t like beef jerky!?? Ok, maybe vegans don’t, but Lulu is obSESSed with jerky of all kinds! Beef, elk, moose, you name it! But, there will always be a special place in her and Alison’s stomachs for a classic long Slim Jim. I don’t know about you, but I think we need a jerky and beer taste off soon with the ladies!

Fanny pack, bum bag, belly bag…whatever you call it, Alison is ready to ‘bring the fanny pack back', y’all! This time she wants a white leather one. But, the age-old issue is always keeping white items clean. So, Lulu comes to the rescue by suggesting saddle soap. Yeah, other than people with horses and actual saddles, who uses saddle soap anymore?

Lulu has a more pragmatic wish this week…a keyboard of her own. Traveling so much can make it difficult to bring along a good quality keyboard, but she’s wishing for it anyhow! She’s such a talented musician, she deserves her own keyboard.

Alison chose the historical city of Bourail, New Caledonia for her 10K day this week and is staying at the beautiful Sheraton New Caledonia Deva Spa & Golf Resort in a 2 bedroom suite with a terrace. There she is “nestled on a warm, sandy beach overlooking a UNESCO World Heritage-listed barrier reef.” After a sound sleep in her room with a gorgeous view, she has breakfast at Sweet Café Burail for some review-recommended chicken & salad, followed by a spa treatment.

Next stop is Parc Zoologique et Forestier Michel Corbasson to enjoy the gorgeous biodiverse park filled with endemic species of animals and plants. She chose to have a light lunch of sandwich, chips and bubbly amongst the peacocks. Let’s hope they are friendly and ‘lunch with the peacocks’ doesn’t turn out like ‘sleeping with the fishes.’ (Note to Alison…don’t wear a peacock blue shirt or dress when you lunch with the peacocks.)

Since her day, so far, wasn’t all that 10K in expense, she chose to ramp it up at the Bonhomme de Bourail, a beachside monolith shaped by years of waves crashing against hard quartz. The rock formation’s name translates to “Gentleman of Bourail,” and was named for its resemblance to a head of a man wearing a hat. What else would you possibly do there but hire a helicopter from Air Rent, hire photographer, Sébastien Mérion, to capture images of her from above while she poses in the ‘très cher’ Heart Sleeve Tuxedo Tailored Dress by Alexander McQueen and an El Dorado Top Hat (unbanded) by American Hat Makers. Once again, Alison wins the prize for the most specific google search of the week! (Google: expensive tuxedo dress to wear next to a man wearing a top hat)

Lulu chose the beautiful terrain of Delta, Utah for her 10K Dollar Day this week, where she stays in an architectural masterpiece of an AirBnB in Draper, Utah. It is a Scandinavian modern farmhouse with a ski pad and hot tub! She then pops into her newly rented Tahoe from RentalCars.com with her bestie, Alison Burns, as she’s decided to fly her in, first class, on American on this excitingly adventurous 10K day!

Just because you’re best friends, doesn’t mean that you like the same kinds of music. So, Lulu got a pair of Sony WH-1000XMR wireless noise-canceling (over the ear) headphones for Alison so Lulu can crank her own music! Lulu had the previous version of these headphones and has a very concise and useful review for you. “They are awesome. Dogs will eat them."

Breakfast is fast food on the run, as they have a LOT to do today! First stop is the Topaz Museum where they will learn all about one of the USA’s biggest mistakes…internment camps during WWII. Please press that link and find out more about this important lesson to be learned from our history. If you like musicals, check out the beautiful piece, Allegiance, starring George Takei, from Star Trek and the stunningly talented, Lea Salonga. This story is based on the true-life experience of George himself. After researching all of this, do yourself a favor and listen to Lea sing Higher from the show. You’ll be mesmerized!

Now they have to fuel up their bellies at Mi Rancherito and stock up on some snacks from the local Delta Jubilee Grocery before the big part of their 10K adventure at Trilobite Quarry where they will be spending 8 hours digging up fossils!! Yes! FOSSILS!! And they get to take them home! Ever the good preparer, Lulu has stocked them both with the proper supplies to help them through the hot, sunny day. They are wearing Pine Tree Bamboo Gloves, Saloman Quest 4 Gore-text work boots, hotsy totsy Bomber Buzz safety glasses, Marfa Stance parachute parka for Lulu and a Langerchen Ottawa jacket for Alison.

And off they go on their digging adventure hauling their Mac Sports Collapsible Wagon with cup holders and their Portable Water Chiller as they wear their personal hands-free Canopes that have inner silver linings that absorbs 90% of the sun’s heat! Now, THAT is what I call a true ‘silver lining!’ Just so they have a space to call their own, they have a Pop-up 10X10 Sun Ninja sun shade while they get their ‘Indiana Jones’ on.
