229: The Psychedelic Episode

A GREAT time was had by all at our inaugural PodCastaway Retreat with these amazing humans! Saying goodbye was bittersweet, but the retreat weekend was only the beginning of Team 10K helping these new podcasters amplify their voices in the world of podcasting! And our Discord group has kept us right there by their sides for feedback and assistance ever since they left!

Alison is obsessed with ceiling fans. She loves what they do & how many varieties there are. And now everywhere she goes, she looks for ceiling fans!

When living on the road, you look for creature comforts and familiarity to create the feeling of ‘home.’ Finally sitting in one location for 3 months, Lulu is obsessed with her latest ‘sale find’ at Whole Foods, the Seawicks Seaside Tomato Garden candle. I, personally want to smell that since I LOVE the smell of a tomato leaf!

Alison wishes for a pillow that would massage your head as you sleep. I know they have some that have those rotating balls, but I’m not sure she’d be able to stay asleep with that kind of pillow!

Lulu and I both have a deep love for Jean-Luc Picard, so as she has wished for a neverending beverage fridge/cabinet, I thought you all might enjoy a little video compilation of him and others ordering his & Lulu’s favorite. Tea. Earl Grey. Hot.

This week’s word, Psychedelic from our friend & fellow actor, David Kelley brought Alison to Banderas Bay, Mexico to experience expansion of her consciousness through The Buena Vida Psilocybin Retreat. There at the Buena Vida, she chose the 5-Day Magical Retreat with private room for just over 1/2 her 10K budget. That price also included:

  • Daily 1-on-1 access to facilitators & leaders

  • Chef-prepared organic menu, Vegan and Veg available

  • A/C, Fans, WiFi

  • Luxury Bathrooms

  • Ocean or Garden Views

Now, not having done this before Alison pointed out that these are some of the things they say you would experience at one of these Psilocybin mushroom retreats.

  • Experiences of intense love and bliss

  • Releasing suppressed emotions

  • Deep, profound forgiveness of self and others

  • Revisiting beautiful memories

  • Embodied states of connection

  • Releasing old patterns and destructive thoughts

  • Confronting areas of rumination and fear with confidence.

  • Processing traumatic experiences with a new perspective.

That high price tag pays off with the staff personally monitoring your dosage and experience. I mean, I’m still not going to do it, but hey, wouldn’t that make you feel better if you did?

And, when one trips on mushrooms 10K style, of course you need to look the part! So, Alison found a cool site called, 1stDibs where she purchased 3 beautiful dresses for the experience. 1970’s Pauline Coral Psychedelic Print Dress, 1970’s Hand-Printed Tropical Floral Japanese Silk Kimono and the Lillie Rubin Collection 700 Vintage Dress in Yellow Jersey With Sash. Now, why only 3 outfits for a 5 day stay??? Well, Alison figures she’ll be naked for the other two days, of course.

Not a surprise as Lulu is very much a visual art lover, the word, ‘psychedelic’ make her think of visually surreal locations. So, she looked up Culture Trip-15 Most Surreal Destinations on Earth and found Yellowstone National Park’s fascinatingly beautiful Grand Prismatic Spring. It’s a stunningly colorful site and is the largest hot spring in the United States, and the third largest in the world. Using Kabino, she landed on the incredible 9-room Buck Buck Moose Cabin (now, c’mon…that’s a funny name!) for some clean mountain air and loads of luxury amenities. Now, that sounds like a great place to have another PodCastaway Retreat to me!

Once there she needed some sustenance, and as she is a big fan of ordering online, Lulu ordered the breakfast hamper from Fortnum & Mason that included some of these goodies and treats:

Vintage champagne

Fruit cake

Chocolate, cookies/clotted cream

Preserves

Meats, Pickles, Caviar

Port, Wine, Tea

and even a book!

The perfect 10K way to view the Grand Prismatic Springs is the Viator VIP Private Yellowstone Tour that includes SO much like a personalized private tour with a guide, hiking, binoculars for wildlife watching of bison, elk, coyote, owls, & one person’s review said they witnessed a wolf pack on a bison kill! Speaking of reviews, there were a lot that praised one of the guides in particular, Derick, so she decided to get some necessary tour supplies and then gift them to the him at the end as his tip. And since some of it was personally engraved, we’ll just have to suspend our imaginary belief that she gets Derick for her trip!

The gifts include a Garmin Montana 700i Personal Handheld GPS, a personalized walking stick from Emblaze Your Trail, a Dawson Bowie Knife, a 19th century stencil paintbrush and some Angelus paint/ink to personalize the leather sheath she’s going to make to hold the knife. And just for some fun fashion along the way, she picked up some Christian Louboutin white basketball shoes.

Teaching all year long can be exhausting and Alison is happy that May is almost done! That means she gets to re-evaluate what she wants to do for the next year. It’s restart time!

Lulu is happy to be sitting in one town for 3 months. She’s been in NYC for rehearsals, but has now moved on to Boston where they will open the revival of 1776.
