Sleepy Hollow, Tarrytown, New York + Transylvania, Romania

This is a Halloween episode! We just did a #10KSundaySocial about best and worst costumes, we'd love to hear yours so join our group and add your costume to the conversation!

Oh, and if the title of this episode has you intrigued, fast forward to minute 17:18 on the audio player above, where Alison and Lulu detail the 10K Dollar Day Diet Plan, fully informed by 97 weeks of researching luxury fine dining. Forget everything you know about fad diets, THIS is the one for you.

Alison is obsessed with her powder dipped nails. She'd never tried it before, and while according to Elle.com there are pros and cons, Alison loves having a fresh manicure and is looking forward to the long-lasting promise of this method. Lulu is obsessed with creating a sound-proof recording situation in her apartment. There are lots of pillows involved, a towel-turned tablecloth, it makes for quite the peculiar-looking set-up, but are you hearing how good she sounds?

Alison wishes that candy wasn't so bad for you. And now that there is Halloween candy every where you look, her cravings are starting to take over. Lulu is wishing for yet another bag, she wants the Baboon go-bag, which in addition to being waterproof, it can be carried like a duffel, a crossbody, or as a backpack. The versatility has Lulu adding this to her wishlist stat!

10K Dollar Day in Sleepy Hollow, Tarrytown, New York, #halloweenspecial #halloweentravel #luxurytravel #spookyadventure

Sleepy Hollow is a real town in the Westchester county of New York state, near Tarrytown. The tale by Washington Irving was based on real stories that circulated the area. Already this sounds creepier than Lulu's taste, we will have to see if she lasts through her own day. Lulu stays in the Castle Royal Suite at the Castle Hotel and Spa in Tarrytown. Her room is in an actual castle tower, and has a panoramic view of the Hudson River and Manhattan Skyline. The complimentary premium mini bar is an exciting amenity, and necessary considering the nearly $4,000 price tag for her two nights. She is staying here over Halloween, however, and when she looked up prices for other non-holiday dates, the prices nearly halved. Good to know for your real life travel plans. Lulu books a rental car though Booking.com, as she's just needing to get around to a few places. Her first stop is Eatarry for a quick breakfast of poached eggs over creamy parmesan polenta. Umm, YUM.

Lulu's first activity in this town is the eponymous Sleepy Hollow Experience. She hires the one-man act to do an additional show so that she can see it after breakfast. It's performed at Washington Irving's home, but it’s during the day so Lulu thinks she can handle the level of spookiness this will dish out. While she handled that, she's a little skittish about any more eerie excursions, so she flies Alison out to join her on American Airlines, first class, of course.

They are headed to Horseman’s Hollow, an 18th-century village haunted by the Headless Horseman. You wander through the cemetery, the tavern, and an Old Dutch Church, with hauntingly horrifying people poking you, terrorizing you...yeah it's a good thing Lulu brought Alison with her. There's a photo booth at Horesman's Hollow, and wanting to look as cute as possible, they send producer Ash $400 to pull together some new outfits for them from their favorite boutique, Vinnie Louise.

With their scares of the day braved, they venture to The Twisted Oak for lunch. They have chocolate soup, which Alison and Lulu debate whether its a savory or a sweet, and decide they would eat it either way. The sea bass and the duck lasagna also sound appetizing. After lunch they are hearing to The Great Jack O’ Lantern Blaze. What is that you ask? Well, over 7000 hand carved, illuminated pumpkins are assembled into installations like the Statue of Liberty, a Chinese Dragon and the zodiac signs.

Oh and there are hay rides, apple cider, and other fall-esque things.

After taking in all things pumpkin, they head to Equus at the Castle Hotel where they do a seven course chef tasting menu, along with the seven wine pairings. They take their seven-glasses-in selves and stumble on over to the ghost tour of Tarrytown Music Hall, which Lulu has paid extra for them to be able to do the tour at midnight. What a spooky day in Sleepy Hollow!

10K Dollar Day in Transylvania, Romania #halloweentravel #halloweenadventure #spookytravel #dracula

Before she spends her day being scared, Alison goes for some luxury at the Red Deer Lodge, which she found on Airbnb. This chalet in the Carpathian Mountains of Romania has 4 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms and an open kitchen living space. Actually while this sounds luxurious, after a day of spooks such a huge space to yourself may be really scary! We'll see how she fares.

Alison first activity is to visit the house where Vlad the Impaler was born. This is the historical figure that the story of Dracula was based on. There's a whole lot of uncertainty from Alison on pronunciations, the story, the name. But let’s just say after a dark and tragic origin story the villain we know as Dracula was known as Vlad Dracul, which means "Son of a Dragon". He really did drink human blood, and impaled people outside of his home where he dined amongst the corpses. It's very gruesome and blood curdling, though nothing unseemly is on the menu at Vlad Dracul House, the restaurant located in the home where he was born in Sighisoara. Alison orders the bean soup in bread, beef goulash, and house pie with plum. Hard to imagine eating after hearing that story isn't it?

After lunch Alison buys out a tour of Bran Castle, which definitely has the look and feel of every depiction ever of Dracula’s Castle. Though technically Vlad's true home was in a neighboring region, this place has all the gothic charm and creepiness you would be looking for on a Dracula tour. Next she grabs "old sweets" at Casa Terra, a dessert of wheat, nuts, and honey that takes two hours to prepare. She's going to get a bottle of rosé champagne to drink while she waits for her dessert to be made.

After that indulging and imbibing, she heads out for bear watching in the Land of Volcanoes. They take you into the woods to wait to see bears in their natural habitat. After a short hike to the hides - like a hideaway with one way glass so that you can see out but the bears can't see you - you wait quietly until the bears come along. Once the bears can be seen you can take photographs, but for the love of anything do not make any noise! Just imagining Alison quietly waiting while tipsy and full of sugar is taking all the imagination one can muster.

Alison is excited for her luxe Halloween evening, so she heads back to get ready. As she is obsessed with Etsy, she went for this $2400 custom-made Red Gothic Wedding Dress with Corset by IvoryBlackBridal. She wants a "glamorous scary" makeup look to go with her dress, one with a lip that - to quote Alison directly - "looks like I've been sucking blood but it's beautiful". Yikes. Well she found Romanian makeup artist Maria Stephan and hires her to come to her chalet in the mountains to make her over.

All dressed up with somewhere to go, she went to Valea Verde Restaurant - "one of the most refined restaurants in rural Transylvania" - for a seven course dinner with wine pairing.

After dinner Alison takes a rented BMW i8 Roadster out for a drive to collect a few people en route to the her next destination. She hires photographer Laurentiu Nica to do a creepy All Hallow's Eve themed photoshoot with her in her glamorous getup. She selected him after really liking his photos and googling him and assessing that he was a big, strong guy. She is going to need someone to protect her as she wanders into the Hoia Baciu Forest! (Here's how to pronounce that by the way.)

It is known as "Europe's Bermuda Triangle", where the creepy trees are the least of your concerns. Electromagnetic anomalies, UFO sightings, and people disappearing all have Alison spooked enough to hire a guide to go with them. Alex from RomanianFriend.com leads tours into the forest and is going to serve as Alison's arm to grab. But wait, then there is a solid chance he will be in the pictures...so it looks like she's going to have to get him a costume. This Vampire Masquerade Costume by OutcastProps, to be specific. Another Etsy find, of course.

She took a tour of this place earlier in her day, but she is heading right back with Laurentiu and Alec in tow to attend the Bran Castle Halloween Party! The night tour of the castle is followed by a wicked fairies dance and then a party in the inner courtyard, where the open bar only serves red wine! It looks like blood - so on-theme - and it's Alison's beverage of choice...what a great start to the festivities. Ambient halloween music plays while classic horror films are projected onto the castle walls, keeping this party going until 4am!

Hey guys, welcome to another episode of 10 K dollar day this week we're talking road trip snacks, Halloween makeup, and where bears live. I mean, I'm a big fan of hibernating. Good one, wasn't it? Don't worry. We have some other good jokes in the episode. See you at the end

Hey Baes welcome to episode 97. Hey, it's only three away from a hundred. That's right. We got some stuff planned too, right? That's right. We do be on the lookout for that stuff. Be on the lookout. And I would say start checking our Instastory pretty regularly because we will have some cool stuff happening in the first part of November. So you want to start watching that now so that it keeps coming up on your feed and you're gonna see some cool faces I think on that story coming up. Very excited. I am too. I am too. Okay, so this is episode 97. It's October. Things are happening. Our to do list for 10 K is gigantic. That's right. It's never ending. Always still fun. But there's so much more stuff you guys know that were super fired up, that's the right term or super fired up post conference.

And so we have just been working so hard for doing all sorts of stuff. So part of that hundredth episode celebration is a complete Instagram overhaul. That's right. Yeah. So somewhere, probably two in the morning, I would say. Right before that Wednesday when you guys look at the Instagram on that hundredth episode, it's gonna be a whole new different Instagram and we're really excited about it. We've been doing lots of brainstorming, lots of preproduction. So it's going to be great, but it's a lot of work. It is a lot of work. Yeah. But I think it will be worth it. And I think you know, this whole thing is a learning curve, right? So we're learning as we go, we're changing, we're adapting, we're saying yes. And so I think with that, you know, change is inevitable and I think it's only for the better. So, yeah. And just to let you know, guys, the Glossier and Glossier we get, we're still the same people.

We're still making the same mistakes. We still are winging it. It just looks more cohesive. That's all. No, we just have people now who know what they're doing, telling us what we should do. Exactly. Like we're realizing everything we didn't know. So we are slowly, slowly, slowly getting I mean, I think we're professional, so I want us, I don't want to say that we're getting more professional. What are we getting? We're getting more, we're getting more polished. I like that. Yeah. We're getting more polished. Yeah. We're like fine. China that's been sitting on a shelf for awhile. It just needs a little, a little elbow grease. A little dusting. Yeah. Yeah. That's good. I like that. I'll be fine. China. Okay. So that being said, do you want to go right into obsessions? Let's do it. All right. Alison burns one is, you know, an obsession.

My obsession is my new nails. Oh, you put that on Instagram recently too? Yeah, I got a new the powder dipped. Yeah. I hadn't done that before. Really? Yeah. I've never done the powder and I walked in cause I needed to get my orange like Halloween nails off because the new show I'm doing, well two reasons. The new show I'm doing, the girl would not be wearing Halloween nails a got it. And B two of them broke off. So I looked crazy cause both of my thumb nails were missing. So I was like, okay, it's time. So I went in and I told her I wanted to get them off and I wanted to get gel, just a regular manicure, no more extensions. She was like, well let's have you ever tried the powder? And I was like, no. She's like, yes we do powder.

We need you to do powder. It's, it's healthier, it lasts longer for you. And I was like, okay. I mean she really didn't give me a choice. So I did it and I really like them. They're very natural. They're smooth and shiny. I like it. That's great. Yeah. I can't stop looking at my hands. You've been really into your nails for like three months now? I have because regardless of how I'm feeling or looking, I, if I look at my hands and they're done, I'm like, all right, life's not so bad. Do guys have something like that? They can do traditional like that. You know, like you can have done and then you don't have, you can look at it and be super polished. I think just a haircut, right? Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Yeah, because I mean guys still have to do their hair though.

That's the thing. Yeah. Or maybe I'm like cleaning up the eyebrows. Oh, cleaning up the eyebrows, gentlemen. Don't sleep on that. Or no nose hairs? No, no ear hairs. It's all Haas. It's all hair related. Yeah. Or you know what, what your life, if you really like it, I'm not going to give anyone beauty tips and I'm certainly not going to normalize anything that I feel is socially normalized. So you know what guys, you live your life. Yeah. Also explore getting nails. Look how good it makes Alison feel. I know. And yet they could do like a clear, my grandfather used to really [inaudible] father. My grandfather used to get his eye. Well it's the era I think. Right. So he used to get his nails buff and then sometimes a clear coat. Oh, okay. Cool. Yeah. So I'm kind of used to seeing men with a clear coat, but I understand like some people may feel weird about it, but you know, it looks clean.

Yeah. My obsession is something that I'm not excelling at right now, but I'm trying really hard. Oh, is so one of the sessions that Alison and I went to at the podcast conference was all about sound and so I'm trying to figure out how to make where I recorded my apartment as soundproof as possible. Gotcha. Yeah. So right now if you guys could see, I usually sit in the corner of what is quote unquote my glorified bedroom. So I sit in the corner and there's a big window on the right with a huge like shelf kind of thing because that's where the air conditioner thing is. So I've put pillows up against that entire window. I've pulled the shade down like it's, it, that's as quiet as possible. But on the desk that I'm sitting at, I've also put a pillow that w like facing me.

Right. So my voice is hitting a pillow as opposed to a wall. Oh, see I didn't go that far. Yeah. Well I'm trying and then I put a towel down cause I don't have a tablecloth. So I put a towel down on the desk. Here's the thing, I am paranoid that I'm going to move the wrong way and slide this entire setup off this desk because it's sitting on a towel. Oh, I get, yeah, I see that. So don't move. So I just need you to know that if you hear me being stiff, it's because I'm trying not to move and all that. So 10 K dollars bays, don't take it personally. That's right. If you're like, what's happening with Lulu, this episode? I am. I have so many wires and everything expensive that I own is basically for this podcast. So you're all on this town.

They're all on one towel. All on towel. Oh my gosh. Well, you know, it could go either way. Really. okay. What's your wishlist? I wish that candy wasn't so bad for you. Oh, right. I've just been craving a lot of candy lately. I love, and I hate that when I go into the store and I just, and I think it's because everyone has it out now cause Halloween is tomorrow. So it's like, you know, I wish I could eat it all and it would get me candy. Chocolate, candy. What are we talking? I am more Ivy. I'm more of a candy candy person. Like not chocolate candy. I do like chocolate, but not like to sit and binge on. I like sour stuff. I like kids. I like hot tamales. I love a bulk candy bag. Yup. Bulk candy all the way. Ah, love it.

Yeah. So good. And remember in Stockholm they were everywhere and I know. So delicious store at the airport. Just bulk candy all over the place. Yep. Oh well they know what they're doing out there. What's your wishlist? My wishlist. Surprise. It's a bag, you know, I always love, I know. Oh well. So there's this new brand called, or I dunno, a new brand to me called baboon. Okay. The baboon bag and they are duffels. They look kind of sporty, but still a little bit professional. It's completely waterproof. So here's the thing, I do have a great leather bag right now. [inaudible] That Danny the Ranka got me. It was, it was on my wishlist from 10 K and he got it for me for my birthday. However, I'm paranoid of getting it wet and right now other isn't it? Yeah. So it's raining a lot and I don't want to get it wet and you know, all that kind of stuff.

The baboon vag is waterproof. It carries about the same size of the stuff that I could put in the leather bag. Okay. And it becomes a backpack. You can wear it as a cross body, a messenger, a backpack and everything. And it still looks cool. It's not like when you have a roller bag that also becomes a backpack and then you have random wheels against your back. Hmm. So I'm really into it. I keep looking at the, those videos that they make and put on Facebook where, you know, it's just like the bag opening and closing. And the zippers moving. I keep, well I mean Danny Christmas is coming up. He could upgrade your bag for you. All he wants to do is buy me bags all day long. Sure. yeah, the baboon bag. I, I want it and they've got really cute limited edition colors and I just want one.

Okay. I can't wait to look at those. It would be my everyday bag. There you go. And then Danny's bag would be your like going out bag. Well Danny's bag is my weekend away back. Oh you're a weekender. Yeah. Got it. Yeah. It's like my fancier weekender bag. Oh then you definitely need another one for your everyday. Yeah. Yeah, that's what I was saying. Yup. Thanks for enabling me. Yeah. You know me. I know, I do know you. Let's take a minute to talk about stuff that you might like a lot and if you do you can visit them too. Just make sure you tell him 10 K dollar day. You Oh Lulu, I am so tired of waking up in sweats and I don't mean like the sweats you aware when you're bingeing Netflix. I mean like the sweat through your clothes. Menopausal sweats. Yeah. I don't know what you're talking about because everyone knows I'm always cold.

Just kidding. Same disease, but you know what I found what? Buffy, have you heard of this? They are comforters, sheets and pillows. They're eco-friendly and they keep you cool. Oh, this is a game changer. How? How do I get one? Well, you have to get the breeze. It's the breathable eucalyptus infused comforter and all you do is go to 10 K dollars do.com/buffy and you'll get a code for $15 off. Oh my goodness. That sounds a so easy and be so cool. Yeah, you're punny. Sometimes having a small business is hard, but it makes it easier if you can find good ways to advertise. Absolutely, and I hope we can do that for our listeners. In fact, if you want to advertise with us, go to [inaudible] dot com slash ad and you can see all of your options. You can reach all sorts of different people all over the world, really simply and easily, and we'll even record the copy for you.

That's right. Personalized original copy and it's embedded in our episodes permanently. That is luxury just like us. All right. Alison burns, who do you think should go first? Oh goodness. I don't know what I could go second, but I don't have to. Oh, well, I mean, that's a 50, 50 decision. I mean, you know, producer wise I could go second, but I don't have do. Right, right, right. I think I'll go second. Oh, okay. Are you ready? Yeah. Cool. Well, you hit the nail on the head. It is the day before Halloween and you know how I feel about Halloween? So this is a Christmas show. No, I'm just kidding. Like, no way. I mean, maybe I can't wait to start celebrating Christmas. I know you can't, don't forget everybody. November 1st my, it's Christmas movie. Instagram recaps start. And I your, we started, I've been doing preproduction since mid October.

I'm very excited about them. Jess, get ready. And, and specifically these recaps are good. Whether you hate or love those movies. Ah, yes. So it's an all equal opportunity. Maybe recap. Okay. So no, I'm doing a Halloween day. Oh look at you. I know I'm very proud of myself, but I'm doing, it's like spook, it says spooky is I can handle, right? Yeah. I cannot wait. Yeah, it's kinda traditional. Spooky, but it's definitely like family friendly. Spooky because I don't like super spooky. Okay. We're going to sleepy hollow. Oh. And Tarrytown in New York. Does that ring a bell for you at all? Well, sleepy hollow does for sure. The headless horseman guy, right? Yeah, that's exactly. So I didn't know it was in New York. Yeah. It's in driving distance from New York city. I had no idea that it was like in an, I thought it was in like London or something.

Oh. And here's what makes me really excited about this. This episode drops what? October 30th maybe? And which means this weekend, the first weekend in November, I'm going here. You are? Huh. huh. Huh. huh. Well you have to do one of your things. Oh, well one of the things I'm definitely doing. Oh and the other things are good like idea cause a bunch of friends and I are renting a car and we're going up to, to this area and so now I know where we can eat breakfast and all that kind of stuff. I love it. Now trust me, some of this stuff we won't be doing such as staying at the castle hotel and spa in Terry town. And especially staying in the castle Royal suite. So this looks like a castle. Okay. I mean it is a cat and it's an old castle that's awesome for the United States, you know, like old for us, not for the rest of the world.

Yay. There's a fireplace, there's a panoramic view of the Hudson river and the Manhattan skyline from my sweet. Wow. There is a complimentary premium mini bar and you get a hundred dollars food and beverage credit. Really? Yes. And so normally we'd be like, okay fine, I'll use that credit for breakfast, but I'm not, I was like, why don't we ever use it this way? I'm going to go to the bar and get a bottle of something and take it to my room. You can do that. I don't know that it's a 10 K days. Let me do that. Two nights in the castle Royal suite, $3,817 and 84 cents. Whoa. All right. Yeah. Now this is over Halloween and I feel like Oh, absolutely. Fisher. Their time, the price is so jacked. Yeah, but it is beautiful. There's a lot of beautiful like mentions in the States in this area that you can tour as well.

We're not doing any of that, but this would be a really nice little trip. That's awesome. Okay, so castle, hotel and spa, almost $4,000 just for the sweet. Okay. So in order to do everything we want to do, it does involve a lot of driving. So I'm going to just book a normal SUV from booking.com okay. And I got a Nissan Armada for $123. All right. Easy. Easy. All right, I'm going to have breakfast at E Terri or eatery E. A. T. A. R. R. Y. Okay. Not that expensive. So this might be somewhere I could actually have breakfast. All right. This weekend. Okay. They have kind of your normal breakfast food, but also poached eggs over creamy Parmesan polenta. That sounds delicious. It sounds delicious. You know, have you ever like I haven't eaten yet today and so sometimes researching and doing the research and looking at menus is real tough if you, yeah.

It's like when you go to the grocery store hungry, except there's no ability to actually buy the food, right? Yeah. Anyway. Safer way. But it's, you're right. Yeah. You guys welcome to the 10 K dollar a day diet plan where instead of eating, you just look up luxury menus and yeah. Yeah. It's a, it's an imaginary, wait, what would it be? Imaginary food diet. Imaginary fine dining diet, and then you should add up all the calories and then just be proud. Yeah. That you didn't eat it. I love that idea. We should all do that once a week. A little fast. It's a fast, but instead you just drive yourself crazy looking at menus, planning what you would eat if you did it. Oh gosh. 10 K diet day. Don't do it guys. This is so unhealthy. We are not licensed nutritionists. Do not follow this advice.

This is the worst nutritional advice anyone could ever give. Do not do. Like on our story, they'll have like a 10 K diet day, like once a once a week. We just have a day where we just post all the amazing foods and tell everyone these are the calories that you're saving by not eating. That's actually kind of, it's, that's hilarious. Yeah, let's do it. Let's do it. Alright, so I'm going to have 900 calories for breakfast if not 15 hundreds. This polenta situation, but they also have a really great selection of teas at this, at this restaurant. In fact, they do afternoon tea. I just don't have time. So I'm going to get a pot of tea now. My breakfast and the tea only costs me about 20 bucks, including tip. Oh, I know. Yeah. It's kind of easy. So, but it doesn't really bode well for spending money, but okay.

Yeah. Here we go. Okay. The first thing that I'm going to do for sleepy hollow specifically is I'm going to the sleepy hollow experience. Oh, okay. Now this is a one man show where he kind of acts out, I think the story of the headless horseman. Yeah, I would hope. Yeah. And usually he does two nighttime shows, but I've got stuff to do in the evening and I, so I can't do that. So it's usually $45 a person. I'm going to say, Hey, if I gave you $2,000 can you do an extra show for me? And I know that that's a high price tag, but he does it at Washington Irving's the author's home. So they have to open the house up. There's a stage manager, there's lights. It's like a real thing. Right? So I'm going to offer them $2,000 to do this show for me and they're going to take it and then, and then the next thing, so I've watched him act it out.

Right. So it's like that. That's a spooky is usually I get then I'm going to go to Horseman's hollow. Okay, so I'm going to read the description. Okay. Travel back in time to cursed, sleepy hollow and 18th century village driven. Mad by the headless horseman. Enter the foreboding Gates and make your way through haunted landmarks like the cemetery Tavern and old Dutch church. Be careful on your journey. The undead, the evil and the insane rule. This terrifying landscape. I stopped there. Oh, I was like [inaudible] going to do it. Well I'm flying you in cause I can't do this by myself. Oh, so you get to come on American airlines round trip from Tampa first-class. Yes. 700 bucks. That's it. Yeah. Wow. That's flying into New York city. Okay, perfect. Cause I picked up the car in New York city. Gotcha. Which means now you're taking the road trip with me and the car. Perfect. So now I have to add $20 for your breakfast. Okay. Yes, yes. Adding $50 for snacks for the road trip because now it's not just me driving an hour. Now it's officially a road trip. Oh yeah. Now we need all the candy and now when you candy. And then I'm also, cause I wasn't sure if you knew the headless horseman. So I bought an audio book for $50. Try you?

That's really smart of you. I mean I just wasn't sure. I only know it because there's like a movie. Let's see. So I did it right. Okay. So for us to go to this Horseman's hollow, it's $44 for both of us. Okay. That's not that bad. No, no. We do this little tour situation. Okay. So since we're together and we're doing this trip we're probably going to take a lot of photos and a lot of selfies cause when we're together we take a lot of photos. So I feel that we need to have cute fall outfits. Ah, Ooh. So we're going to give Ashley $400. Okay. Each no together. Oh, okay. And she's just going to send me stuff for us to wear. Oh, per, for the trip. And everyone, you need to know that at that 90% of the things that Alison and I were when we are on camera for 10 K we're dressed by Ashley.

Yes. She just goes, here's a shirt. Put it on this. He put those earrings on. Yeah. Do this. Take your hair down. Yep. The red lip. Yeah. So so since we're, you know, we're getting more polished. These photos have to be styled by Ashley. Right. Exactly. Perfect. Okay. So boom, a, that's 400 bucks for fall cute fall clothes. We're going to go to lunch at the twisted. Oh, Ooh. I like that. Yeah. It's one of those menus that changes every day. So it was really hard for me to figure out like what we were cheat, but that's cool. Yeah, but it's a, you know, on their website it says our food is meant to be comforting, whether it be the sea bass, the duck lasagna, or our chocolate soup. Ooh, I wanted that. I want that. I want to try that. Right. That sounds amazing.

Is it a dessert you think? Or is it a safe? It'd be cool if it was savory for sure. Oh, see, I was thinking it'd be cool if that was dessert. Well, it'd be cool if they had both. It'd be cool either way. Either way. We're eating that soup. I found in New York times review that says the entrees are about $30. So I kind of estimated how much it would be for us to both have an entree and appetizer and a cocktail. So for the two of us, including tip, it's one 80. Okay. Not bad, actually. All right. Super excited about the next thing, because this is what I'm doing in real life. Okay. It's the great jack-o-lantern blaze encroaching on Hudson. Oh wait, do they burn it? Oh, you know when at Christmas you go to someplace where if they've put up like 200,000 Christmas lights. Yeah. It's like that. But with jack-o-lanterns. Oh, ah. So that's where you're going? Yeah. In real life. I'm going here. So it's over 7,000 hand-carved illuminated pumpkin's. Where do they get them all from? I don't know.

Like who does that? I don't, I don't know where you get 7,000 pumpkin's. That's crazy. Yeah. Like they must start. And how do they keep them from rotting? I don't know. So it can't be just like a handful of people because then you'd have to make one like start in like August and they would never keep, so it has to be like at least a thousand people make doing seven pumpkin Z. Yes. Having the whole town does it? Maybe it's a town, a town community event. Are they already done when you get there or are people carving? Is it like a carving station? They're done. Wow. Yeah. Crazy. It says it's hand-carved. Now that you bring all of that into the conversation, I'm wondering if it's hand carved from wood. Oh, not real pumpkins. You know what, I'll be able to tell you next week. Okay. I can't wait.

Yeah, so it's over 7,000 hand carved, illuminated pumpkin's and it's on one of those manners that I told you. Like the estates. Yeah. Yeah. They have like a fully functioning pumpkin carousel. They have a statue of Liberty made out of pumpkin's. Like it's a whole thing and you walk around, they have hay rides, you can buy Apple cider, blah blah, blah. So for the two of us, the admission is $44 total. That's not that bad. I also assumed that we would want Apple cider and all sorts of other fall things. So I budgeted an extra $40 for us to just like munch things. Perfect. Right? Yeah. Okay. So dinner. Dinner is at Equis and Equis is at the hotel. He has, I did not get you an extra room because my room is gigantic. That's fine. So dinner is at Equis. At the castle hotel. There's a seven course chef tasting menu and a seven course wine tasting and malicious horse. We're doing that. And for the two of us it's 576 no. Here's the thing, you and I have done a multiple course wine tasting menu before. Correct. On a scale of one to 10, how tipsy, where were you when we left that restaurant? 11

Cool.

I think I have passed tipsy and ventured over into the one to 10 how drunk are you? Okay. One to 10 how drunk were, wait a three. Three? Yeah. Was I still remember everything. Okay. Well I feel like not remembering is 10. Oh, I think not. I think blacking out is 10 isn't that not remembering? I feel like you can have a night where you don't actually like black out and you still are like, Oh we did that. Are you functional at, you're not functional at blacking out? I thought blacking out was functional but not remembering. No, I thought, I thought it's like passed out on the ground. Someone has to carry you home. Oh see I think there's a blackout and then a pass out. Oh, okay. So you can be, you can be drunk and then you can be passed out drunk. I don't know.

I feel like we're not cool enough to know any of this. Okay. So, well if there's three tiers, let's put it on a scale of one to 30 so on a scale of one to 30 how drunk do you think we were? A scale of one to 30. My heart hates the fact that this is one to 30 but 30 is like passed out in the street, like drool coming out your mouth, someone's carrying you home. Wow. I'm surprised your friends even want to get close enough to you to carry you home. I would do it. Thanks.

It wasn't a test of friendship and I feel like failed. Oh gosh, fine. I would

Do it to please don't ever do that to me. Okay. So no we won't. We don't even know what scale. We're like, we're clearly not going to do this to each other. So let's just suffice to say we were not sober when we left our wine tasting tour and so I just want you to remember that state of mind because what you'll want to do after this seven course wine tasting is go to the room, sit in front of the fire and just hang out, right? Yeah. We have one more thing to do. Okay. So imagine being in that state of mind. I'm imagining it and we're going to go do a private ghost tour of the used to call. Oh my God, I love it. Yeah, I think so too. I think it's the only way that I would like it. Yeah. So normally they're $25 each, but they don't do them at midnight. Okay. So again, in order to do it private, I have to, I have to ask them to open the music hall and also hire a guide late at night, blah, blah, blah. So I'm going to give them $1,800

Oo to do that, you know? Yeah. Just you and me doing whatever friends we've made that day, I guess. And you know, and that brings me to my total, which is $9,830 and 7 cents. That's so exciting. I love that you finally did a Halloween day. I did one last year. You did? I went to a haunted house in Birmingham, Alabama had a furnace. Oh, right. See, I don't remember it. So thanks that I feel like I'll remember this one. I remember yours. It was as in Salem, Massachusetts. Yeah. I know. It's because you thought that I was literally like going to hell.

I wasn't little concerned for you. That's okay. So tell me where you are going. Okay, well I have to say right when you started describing like what your idea was, I was like, Oh my God, it's going to happen for the first time ever, we're going to pick the same place. I was like waiting for it. Cause you know, there's not a ton of places that are known, you know, as like great Halloween vacation spots or you know what I mean? Have like a theme. So I know last week I already started Halloween early and I went to dairy Ireland. This week I'm going to Transylvania row Malison I almost went there, see? And I almost did sleepy hollow for real. Yeah. But I honestly thought it wasn't in New York. I thought it was in London. I was like, Oh, he'd done London. So you didn't really do that much.

No, no, no. I just thought about it. Yeah. Oh that's so funny. Yeah. So I'm going to Transylvania the home of Dracula of Oh my gosh. Okay. Tell me about it. Okay, so I'm staying in this luxury chalet at the red deer lodge. It has four bedrooms, five bathrooms. Now they do, it's gorgeous. I mean, right. Yeah. Four bedrooms. Five bathrooms. Yeah. Luxury. Luxury. Yeah. And they have a five night minimum, but I was like, whatever. It's 10 K dollar day. So I got that. I'm only saying two nights, but with all the fees and everything, it's $2,220 for five nights. Oh, that's not that bad. It's not bad. If you think you have four bedrooms and five bathrooms and it's gorgeous, like, and you look at these pictures, it's just unbelievably pretty. And like the landscaping and just the hillsides and the mountain tops, it's just gorgeous. Oh, that sounds, so I'm going to start my day and I'm going to go visit the house where a Vlad the Impaler was born. I'm going to pause and tell you that it's in paler. Oh, so just say they don't have to pause and tell me that. No, but I, but I don't want it to sound like a correct you all the time, but you do correct me all the time. I know, but I feel mean. You're

Not mean. You should. You can just tell me that. No, you know what I mean? Like I don't want it. I mean, I, you, you have a chance to just say Vlad the Impaler. Wait, now it, I know why it's in paler because he impales people and he was in paled. He was impaled himself. Well, that's what I thought. I read. I don't know. I, I don't even know like that. I saw a picture of him on a stick. Really? Yeah. Maybe it was what? I think it empowerment for some reason it reminded me of like baller. Oh. Like I wish I was a little bit taller. I wish I was a baller. I wish I was glad the Impaler. I mean, to me it just had a nice ring to it. Oh, that's so funny. So I thought it was like a fancy word, you know? Oh gosh. That's like the color. I don't know. I get it now. It sounds really cool and I'm sad that that's not what that is. Oh, well anyways, I'm going to go see his house. Okay.

It is, I'm in this little medieval town in the heart of Romania. It's near a clock tower, which I thought was super cool. And the spa where it used to be is now a restaurant, which they've named Vlad Dracula house.

Really?

Yeah. So it's a restaurant. So I'm going to go eat there for breakfast slash lunch, but really more. Okay. We'll call it brunch. And I clicked on their website and I clicked on their gourmet page.

Huh.

And I have to say their menu is really hard to read because it was a 3d menu.

What? Yeah, I know. And they,

It was weird. So it was like, it like popped up out of the screen and then you had to like flip the pages and it like flipped. Like it was a Harry Potter book, but they might have to zoom in to see the things and everything was like, it was a lot. So I knew that I wanted to get the bean soup, the beef goulash and the house pie with plum

[Inaudible]

I looked on TripAdvisor, it looked like things ran between 10 to $20 per item. So I'm going to guess 60 bucks for this little brunch.

[Inaudible] And after that I'm going to go on a tour of brand castle, which is Dracula's castle. Oh my gosh.

And it's a Hilltop estate that it says conjures up visions of how Eileen wolves and bats fluttering in the Moonlight. And you can take a tour and go through these Gothic chambers and learn about its ties to the undead anti hero.

Wow. I know. So they have a tour on Viator or via tour. Did we ever figure out how to pronounce that? I don't know. You know what? I tweeted them this weekend to ask them that and they haven't tweeted me back. Come on, come on via via door via via. Anyways,

It's, I found it there and they normally do a tour for 15 people and it's $28 and 40 cents per person buying it out. So $426 for this tour of brand castle. And while I was clicking through the website, I found out something, but I'm going to talk about it later. Oh, okay. Okay. So stay tuned. Okay, next I'm going to have now my real lunch at this place called Cassa. Tara and they don't really have a website, they have a blog, but their blog was really beautiful and I guess they write articles about different courses that they have in their restaurant. So the one I happened to stumble upon was highlighting a product that when you translated it was sweet foods slash old sweets sweet foods slash Oh sweet. Yeah. And it says it's wheat are Pacos with nuts and honey. Oh yeah. I mean those ingredients sound good.

It says it takes two hours to prepare. Oh, I know. But they're, they had such great reviews. Their prices are reasonable. And everyone on TripAdvisor just said that it was amazing. They said it's like the best place to go. So I'm excited about that. So I'm guessing if I also get like a bottle of something with some of their lunch items that I'm gonna high ball it and say 100 bucks. Oh, okay. Yeah, I'm sure that's, if I get a bottle of something, I think, right. Like Rosie or champagne or something. Okay. So now I need to take a little time out in my day because I now need to prep for my Halloween evening. [inaudible] Okay. First I need to get a costume and you know, and I know the sight that never fails me. Say it together at sea. [inaudible]

You do love that Etsy. I do. Because you can search by highest price. You get these amazing handmade costumes and it feels very luxurious. So I'm going to order the Baroness, which is a red Gothic wedding dress with corset hand-stitched from Royal Duchess satin. I don't even know what that means, but it's beautiful. This dress is $2,429 and 15 cents, but free shipping. Oh, well yeah, steel. I know, right? So I got my dress next. I decided I definitely wanted to do some crazy Halloween makeup for my event this evening. Okay. So I hired a Romanian woman named Maria Stefan, and she is a makeup artist in the area and we'll put her website on the blog. She didn't have prices on there, but because I'm going to have meet me at my hotel. Yeah. I'm guessing if I have all this as well for her to do my makeup, $700 for her to come to me and do my killer Halloween vampire inspired makeup.

Now are you actually making scary makeup happen? I don't. I think I want it to be like glamorous, scary, right? So maybe like, Oh, maybe like you know, more white pale skin with like a really cool dark smoky eye with lots of like black eyeliner, but like kind of sweeping like a really dark red lip that maybe looks like I've been sucking blood, but yet it's beautiful. Maybe like a little, maybe like a little tiny piece of red coming out of the corner of my lip, but just enough to where people have to look closely to be like, is that her makeup running or is that blood? Do you know what I mean? I mean, this is so outside of my comfort zone that it, sure. Yeah. Yeah. So she's gonna wait though at my hotel. She goes there, she's going to wait for me to get back because even though I have all of my stuff set up to get ready for Halloween, I found something that I really wanted to do first.

And I can't go in a Gothic wedding dress with a core set. I am going to go bear watching like the animal. Yeah. You're in costume to do that. No, I said I have a thing later costume. I'm, I'm putting a, I just had to put like in my room, it's ready in my room. I'm not there yet. Got it. Okay. I'm with you. Yeah. So I'm going bear watching in the land of volcanoes. First of all. Okay. Okay. So I got this tour that I found and they take you into the woods. They said they have to bear hides. The first one you have to get there by horse-drawn cart and the second one, 400 meter easy hike. Okay. So you get there and then it says you just wait and it says bears are very shy animals, so try to remain as silent as possible and avoid any kind of light inside the hide.

So you're actually like in the hide, like waiting for these bears. That's so weird. I know. And so they take seven people out at a time. It's $108 per person. Now, normally on a normal 10 K day, I would buy it out. However, after thinking about it, I, I would like seven other people to be another option if the bear decides to strike. So I don't want to be the only person available if something goes wrong. I like the, you know, the idea of having seven other people there in case, okay, something happens that it's not just me on the line. Like, okay, yeah, so I'm not gonna buy it out. I'm just going to buy $108 and it says in the end, just darkness falls. You need to exit the bear, hide quietly and return to the car. That's all it says. That's it.

That sounds both easy. And Oh, Oh, it sounds a little over-simplify and secretly terrifying. Well, the pictures they showed or beautiful, like there were some gorgeous bears and they seemed very up close. So I know wild bears man in, I kind of feel the same way that I feel about the water. Like that's their home. Yeah, I hear. And if they eat you, I can't be mad at them because they don't know why you're there. I hear you. I totally hear you. Okay. Right now it's time for me to get ready for my luck's Halloween evening. So I'm going to get dressed. I'm going to put my makeup on and first I'm going to go get dinner at the Leah Verday restaurant and it says, you're going to have to help me with this. It's one of the most [inaudible] restaurants in rural Transylvania. Rafa needed. I've never heard this word. It's never heard that word. I N a. T. E. D. [inaudible].

Yeah. Is it like refined? I've never heard that word. Okay. Well, if there were two F's, maybe it's because it was translating it. Hold on. Okay. Well Raffin eight with two F's is a product which has had a component or components removed. So it's kind of like ref, it's from, it's from the French word to refine. Okay. So X. So say again, what's raft unaided? It says one of the most Raffin aided restaurants. I think they mean refined and I think at Google translated the wrong lot. It okay, well that makes sense. A lot of it is weird sometimes when you translate. Okay. So this place is gorgeous. Like wait until you see the pictures and like you and your day. I also got a seven course dinner with a wine pairing looking glass go. And my total with tip was a $100 which is super cheap.

I know, right? Yeah. And the pictures are beautiful. Okay. So now I've decided I'm going to rent a car. So up until then I just think I'm taking like, I dunno, taxis, Uber's whatever they have there, but now it's time for me to do some fun things. So I am renting a BMW. I think it's I eight Roadster, which is that car where the doors open like a spaceship. They go up like wings. Yes. Oh, okay. I thought would look really cool with my vampire dress. Yeah, I bet it dunk. Getting out of that dress, that car for the day. $795 Oh I know. Okay. Love it. So excited about the doors. So I've decided that because I'm in this stunning dress, I want to take some creepy pictures. So I'm hiring a photographer and I searched through my wed.com because they have tons of photographers and I found this guy who's name is Lorencia Nika and he looked like a big guy and I need a big guy because he's got to protect me.

Because we're going to go to the Hawaii, I don't know how to pronounce this at all. Hawaiian by CU forest. Oh, okay. That's probably completely wrong. AGI can AI ACI you? No idea. It could be back key. I don't know. But we'll have it on the blog. People will have it on the blog. This forest is so packed with creepy weirdness that even Dracula himself would probably give it a miss. It says it is known in Romania as the Bermuda triangle. What, what does that mean? Cause years ago it was named after a shepherd who went into the forest with 200 sheep and never came out again. Even the sheep didn't come out exactly. Oh, what does that mean? I know. So it also says there's a clearing in the forest where electromagnetic activity is off the charts and it says apparitions and disembark voices are often heard.

You have shows, lights and orbs are regularly spotted and people claim to suffer from unusual physical symptoms such as scratches and nausea. When their, their weight, they get scratches without scratching anything. Yes. Oh, it says the teams from those shows, ghosted ventures and destination destination truth have all gone, gone there. And I quote this, it says they have already gotten hysterical there. I don't know what that mode there. Right? So are you going to go there? Yeah, I'm going, I'm going, but I'm taking this big like photographer with me. Right. And I'm also hiring this guide and he actually takes people to the forest. Like this is his, this is what he does. I found him on Romanian friend.com and he gives haunted forest tours in this forest. He goes all the time. So you know he's, I mean he does it. So he normally does it around $50 per person.

I'm going to buy it out. So with tipping him, cause it's, we're going in there, it's going to be $322 and 68 cents. So I kind of envision his name is Alex by the way. So hi Alex. So I kind of envisioned that I'm going to be holding on to Alex most of the time even though I really want really cool creepy pictures. So I decided Alex will need a costume because that way if I'm holding onto him because I'm scared, we're still like, he's not in like jeans and a tee shirt and I'm in this school just dressed right. So yeah. So the RENSEA can take pictures of both me and Alex. So I went back to Etsy and I got Alex a vampire masquerade RPG, LARC complete pack, which includes a chest plate, two bracers, double shoulder pads, tacit and a Cape. This thing, I also got it in red so it matches my outfit.

$1,509 and 17 cents for Alex's costume. Okay. That's phenomenal. I hope you like hanging out with, I know you're stuck with him now. I know for the rest of the night too. Cause here's what's happening. So remember early on I told you I went to the brand castle and I found out something? Yes. Okay. Well I found out that on Halloween night there's a party at brand castle and it's, it's open from 7:00 PM to 4:00 AM Oh my gosh. Tickets are $280 and it gets you in with an open bar. The open bar only has red wine. Oh perfect. Because it's like you're drinking bud. They have Halloween music, they have a DJ, they have after parties, they have tents, they have all kinds of fun stuff. And so I'm going to take Alex and Lorencia. So I bought them tickets. So that's 840 bucks. Alex has already dressed. So Lorencia is just going to take more pictures of us at this party now with all the other party goers, drinking red wine. And now I'm finally at the end of my day and I have reached $10,000. No way. It's only cause I, I'm tipped Alex. Exact change by the way.

Oh, well that's, you love that move. That's a signature. Alison burns. I had a move. I'm going to tip him $322 and 68 cents and he's like, keep the chains. You're like, no, no, no, no, no, no. I gotta give it to you. Now you have to take these coins. Yeah. I don't even want American coins. You're like, look, take it. Oh, that's so spooky. I would not do any of that. You'd go to the party. I would go to the party, but I like, I'm not attracted to black. I like a nice, ironic Halloween costume. I like one with like a little joke in it. Yeah. That makes you think a little bit. I don't, I don't really get into the scary Halloween costume. So mine would be a different, I don't know what, Oh, what would my costume be if you were dressed up as that Gothic girl? I would come dressed up like a Santa Claus would be so crazy. Not supposed to be there but still want to get in the fun. But I'd be like an elf.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Or you just come dressed normally and everyone would be like, what are you supposed to? And you're like, Mary Lou from that lifetime movie,

You know, who are you? I'm just a girl from a small town looking for love. Yeah, exactly. And it happens to be Christmas time. Oh my gosh. That's like, Oh, you know what? It would be a great costume though to go as a hallmark Christmas movie and somehow have all the cliches. Like I would have a snowball fight, like maybe snow falling in front of my face somehow, like caught in a little tray and then I would have to have like cookies somewhere for the baking scene. [inaudible] You know what I mean? And then like just come as all the tropes. Yeah, I would enjoy that. That would make me happy.

Let's take him in and to talk about stuff that you might like a lot. And if you do, you can visit them too. Just make sure you tell them 10 K dollar days. Then you Lulu. I am so glad that you're my podcast partner yet. You're okay too. But you know who I really love having as a team member who Buzzsprout Oh, of course. Podcasting isn't hard when you have the right partners. See, well, you're right. They really are a team and they make me feel so supported. I know that if we ever have a question, all we have to do is reach out and they're going to get right back to us. That's right. Because bus route is passionate about helping you succeed. That's the buzz sprout. So we just been [inaudible]

$10,000 in. Where did I go? Sleepy hollow Tarrytown, New York, and Transylvania. Ooh, happy Halloween everybody. But this is how we would give it away. I can't wait for you to put some positive energy into your day for. So here's mine and sleepy hollow and Terry town, they have a community food pantry and most communities do. But I really liked this one because they focus on making sure that the people who need food get healthy food that's high in nutritional value. So they include a lot of frozen meats and a lot of vegetables, a lot of beans. Like it's really not just the standard canned food drive that a lot of people will do, which is also very helpful. But this one really focuses on making sure that the people have nutritional stuff in their pantries. So I really loved that. And the link to that will of course be on our blog. What do you have Allie?

Mine is actually kind of in the same vein as yours. I found a charity called adept and it's been working for the past 14 years to protect the nature rich farmed landscapes of Transylvania. And what they do is they try to support traditional farming communities. So they aim to give these communities like an economic future. So they don't just like die off and they do this without sacrificing the sustainability and productivity of these lands and these farmers. So it's kind of on this same, you know, feeding people organic lovely natural stuff. But also,

You know, helping keep the farmer community alive as well. [inaudible] I thought you were going to have a blood drive. See that would've been clever. And also feeding people. So you know, it really would have been, would have been on brand. So that's how we would give $10,000 away in our locations and make sure you look those up on the blog and also check out our past episodes, look at the blog posts for them because we always have links to charities all over the world. We bring them to you every single episode and we would love for you to start getting engaged with those if you would just have a couple extra bucks to spend. And if you're interested in supporting 10 K dollars a day, then you can do that through our Patrion page. That's right. Make sure you head on over to patrion.com/ten K dollar day and for as little as $2 a month, you can become a member there.

And all of that money just helps us continue this project. So, you know, we've talked about how we want to become more polished and so you can help us do that and remember any little bit Kelo remember any little bit helps and you also get perks along the way. So make sure you check out those tiers and sign up for whatever you can afford. Yup. I mean, you know, maybe we'll use that patron money to get me a rubber mat to put this towel on. So I'm not paranoid that it's very ago. Fall. We'll have to ask Ash if there's money to spare. Anyway. here's another way that you can support us and it doesn't cost you any money. If you're enjoying 10 K dollars a day. If we become part of your life or part of your routine part of your week, please consider going to whatever platform that you're listening on right now and rating us.

Super lively conversation I'm sure is going to come from that because we always have some people out there who have great, great photos and pictures and videos to show us this coming Sunday, which is the first weekend in November. We're going right into holiday season and we want to know what are your favorite holiday dishes that you think about all the time. Facebook live Sunday, 9:00 PM EST to talk about those dishes and IES. We will take recipes. Heck yeah. Maybe we'll even do another video. The best food. Oh wait a minute. I just realized that if that happens I have to cook everything. Well, I will clean. Oh, okay. There it is. I know. Perfect partnership. It is a perfect partnership. Speaking of polished part.

I hope that that didn't pop your mic. I know, right. Perfect partnership. We're super polished. Please find our Patrion. Okay. Anyway what's your happy Oh my happiness

Today is teaching. I am teaching all day today and I've had a few students that are getting ready for like college prep and they're auditioning for multiple colleges. So we've been making there, they have to basically audition to be able to audition so they have to send in like pre screens to these musical theater colleges. And so I've been working with them, we've been filming stuff and I'm just having a blast doing it and I love that. I kind of, you know, get to help them in this next phase of life as they're transitioning into this college world. And it's really exciting for me and I get a lot of joy from it.

That is very cool. Yeah. What about you? My happy is that I ordered an electric blanket and it's getting delivered on Friday. Ooh. Be careful. Got those. Wow. Why? Just make sure you don't leave it plugged in when you're not there. Do you mean plugged in or do you mean on on? Oh yeah, I don't, I wouldn't leave it on. I think, Oh now I'm paranoid. I don't know, Alison. We fight about it going to be fine and it's new. It's not old. Like my parents have electric blankets that are like Ford here sold.
